Ye is Performing At The Pyramids Next Month

*of Saqqara not Giza

After his highly-anticipated performance at MDLBEAST Soundstorm flopped back in December,  Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) still seems keen on paying our side of the world a visit. Last week, it was announced that the multi-award-winning artist is scheduled to stage a concert in Egypt, by the Pyramids of Saqqara, on April 20.

According to information provided by the event’s exclusive media partners, SceneNoise, the chart-topping rapper, songwriter, and producer will be joined by “four additional supporting acts.” Though no information has been provided regarding the name of the additional performers, we wouldn’t be surprised if his most recent collaborator Ty Dolla $ign, with whom he released a joint album with, will also take to the stage in Egypt in April.

Located south of Cairo, the Pyramids of Saqqara are believed to predate those of Giza. Serving as a necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis, it stands today as Egypt’s largest archaeological complex, hosting what is estimated to be the most extensive collection of yet-to-be-unearthed historical artifacts, tombs, and more.

News of the much-anticipated gig comes just months after Travis Scott canceled his Utopia listening party at the Egyptian pyramids over the Summer, leaving Kanye fans uncertain over whether the show will even take place. Drawing parallels to the debacle surrounding Scott’s ill-fated concert, a palpable sense of apprehension surrounds the fate of the upcoming event, especially considering it will be held so soon after the holy month of Ramadan.

Adding another layer of complexity and concern to an already delicate situation, prospective ticket-holders appear to be in a limbo between excitement and skepticism as they grapple with the potential risks and uncertainties associated with high-profile artists performing against such historical monuments— particularly given Egypt’s history with the matter.
