Valentino Teams Up With Qatar Charity To Support Underprivileged Children Receive an Education

Fashion for a cause

Valentino’s latest jewelry collection is for a really good cause. The Italian luxury house has joined forces with Education Above All (EAA), a Qatar-based non-profit founded by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in 2012 to improve access to education for the marginalized in developing countries, on a range of limited-edition jewelry. The pieces include a VLogo Signature metal bracelet with crystals, a VLogo leather bracelet with crystals, and crystal logo earrings. Each piece of jewelry is adorned with an Educate a Child logo.

40% of proceeds will be put towards supporting EAA’s project in Somalia — in partnership with CARE, the global confederation working to fight poverty and social injustice in the world — which aims to bring 57,600 primary school children back to education by 2024. As well as training teachers and offering salary support, proceeds from the sales of the special limited edition Valentino Garavani fashion jewelry will go towards helping to build child-friendly schools.

Speaking about the collaboration, CEO of EAA Fahad Al-Sulaiti said: “We are proud to be working with Valentino, a global brand that is known and respected for its iconic designs and its commitment to an inclusive society made by local entities and global movements. Thanks to this partnership, Education Above All will now be able to bring primary education to the children of Somalia who need it the most, such as children who have to work in order to help support their families and children who are forced to move due to violence or the effects of climate change.”

Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an estimated 50% of primary school-age children, many of them girls living in extreme poverty or displaced by confict or drought, not receiving an education. The luxury fashion house will continue its commitment to support the Educational Above All project in Somalia throughout the year also at a global level during upcoming fairs in London, New York, and Paris, where EAA will showcase the Valentino Garavani collection.

The collaboration, which was first unveiled at Doha’s Jewellery & Watches Exhibition (DJWE) on Feb. 20 – 25, is part of EAA’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17, which calls for a global partnership for sustainable development.

The fashion jewelry is available for purchase from Feb. 28 exclusively in Doha at Maison Valentino boutiques, including Doha Printemps and the Mall of Qatar.
