With everyone stuck at home, and large gatherings indefinitely banned, the question of how brands and magazines will be able to shoot campaigns and editorials is coming to the forefront. Stepping out of their comfort zone won’t be easy, but Jacquemus is proof that with a good dose of imagination, creating DIY content and making it stand out is still possible.
The French designer just released his Spring/Summer 2020 campaign aptly called “Jacquemus at Home”, featuring none other than Bella Hadid, shot entirely via FaceTime by photographer Pierre Ange Carlotti.
The minimalist pictures include a white suit, a yellow crop top, a lavender bodysuit, sandals, colourful shades and of course; the brand’s bestselling signature: a micro handbag.
No stylist, makeup artist or assistant was involved on this shoot—just Bella, a white background, her phone and a strong WiFi connection.
But this wasn’t Bella’s first FaceTime photoshoot, the Dutch-Palestinian model also featured in Vogue Italia’s April issue earlier this month.
Although these might not be the most exciting pictures of all time, the good thing that’s coming out from the pandemic is how the fashion industry is finally learning to keep it real. With all of us in quarantine, for once, everyone is given the same tools: our homes and our phones.
So if you’re a young photographer with big plans but not a lot of money in your bank account, now’s your chance. Turn your bedroom into a studio and who knows? You might catch the attention of your favourite designer.
